DSTC Solar Training

DSTC (DENG Solar Training Center), founded in April 2005, is an internationally certified training facility offering training courses in the design, installation and maintenance of solar systems, as well as Solar Water Pumping training courses.

Deng PV Solar Training Centre (DSTC) was established in April 2005, in technical collaboration with: Global Sustainable Energy Solutions (GSES) of Australia, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Agriculture of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

Initial co-financing was secured from Deutsche Investitions-und Entwicklungsgesellschaft mbH Germany (DEG).

DSTC is an innovative expansion for Deng as a Solar Company and a contribution to the wider use of solar energy on the continent.

DENG Training Center

It has been established to help expand the solar market in Africa by providing as many stakeholders as possible with the much needed technical training in the design, installation and maintenance of Stand Alone Solar Systems.

The training is available to all stakeholders within the solar industry. This includes private  companies  and  individuals, Government  institutions, NGOs as well as to students from the KNUST and the Polytechnics. The sustainability of the Training Centre has been ensured by the Master Trainer who has simultaneously trained 3 local trainers to be responsible for the training program.

Technical training consists of both class room courses and practical training, which includes  a  Demo  installation.  The  courses  end  with  an  examination  after  which Certificates are issued to successful students in three categories: Pass, pass with credit, and pass with distinction.

By the end of June 2007, about 130 students would have been trained in Stand Alone Solar Power Systems. Training will still continue with  about 4-6 courses being organised per year.

Under the Training  Program, DSTC organizes Solar Awareness  Workshops at selected Rural Townships.

At each of the workshops and training sessions, a Ghana Health Service (GHS) nurse provides lectures on HIV/Aids and Malaria prevention as the Centres social contribution on awareness creation among the youth.

By the end of June 2007, eight  (8)  workshops have been held and Special  Lecturers organised for institutions such as the Energy Commission, KNUST, GGEA, GECA and GIE.

Africa is blessed by an abundance of sunshine. The Solar Industry is growing slowly but steadily and with it the need for trained solar technicians will increase. It is our hope and expectation that with the solar training programs being organised, the DSTC will make an important contribution to the National Development efforts through training and capacity development that will ensure the growth of  the solar industry in  Africa.

From  June  2007,  an  additional  training  program  in  Solar  Water  Pumping  will  be introduced at the Centre. A business training course as well will be offered from 2008 to rural  Dealers/Service  providers  who  have  already  been  technically  trained  at  the DSTC.
